What are some good blogging websites to blog about ur life?

I’m looking for a good blogging website to blog about my life experiences and opinions on various aspects of people and cultures, and other people are able to view my blogs n can express their comments.

The service that’s good for YOU depends on how you are going to construct and develop the blog, as well as and other preferences.

I can tell you what services are popular. WordPress (i.e. the http://wordpress.org version) is at the top of the list for people who run a web site and want to incorporate blogging or who want to do "multi-user blogging". WordPress can be a bit complicated to use, but it offers the largest and most progressive batch of features. Blogger/Blogspot (http://blogger.com ) is at the top of the list for people who would rather have a service control the primary web site functions and provide automated tools/features (i.e. developer-hosted blogging, which is the Blogspot version of the site). Blogspot is well known for its ease of use. Livejournal (http://livejournal.com ) is easy to use, but lacks the depth of customization available in the other services. WordPress can be used as a developer host (i.e. the http://wordpress.com version – which also has multi-user features).

All of the above (except wordpress.org) are free developer-hosted services. Similar services are Vox (http://vox.com ), Typepad (http://typepad.com – can also work as a self-hosted blog platform), Travelpod (http://www.travelpod.com/ ), and Tumblr (http://www.tumblr.com/ ).

You may want to check out http://blog-services-review.toptenreviews.com/ , which provides a listing of some top blogging services and features.

With that said, you do have the option of creating a self-hosted/stand-alone blog where more of the site will be controlled by you. You would likely need money – $10 to $160 – to pay for a web host and/or domain name (prices vary regarding time range and offered features). You may need to purchase blogging software as well. There are some services that are all-inclusive – web hosting, domain name, blogging software in one package. See http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/%E2%80%A6 for more details regarding your choices. Again, WordPress.org, Blogger, Typepad Pro, and Movable Type (http://www.movabletype.com/overview/power-bloggers.html ) would be applicable as a blog platforms in that case. Also, this may be your best option if you want to help ensure that the blog stays active for a long time (provided that you can continually fund its existence) and that you can utilize or incorporate the most features.

NOTE: You may want to post future questions about blogging in a subcategory of Computers & Internet > Internet OR the Computers & Internet > Programming & Design category.

Has anyone ever heard of a book publishing company called Creative Writing Publishing?

My sister Mrs. Melanie Nowak had told me that she had gotten her vampire book series published into hard cover from a publishing company called Creative Writing Publishing. I can’t find their website, and I wanted to know more info about the company, and what it takes to publish a book for myself and not sell it.

Good Morning NOLA!  It’s going to be a hot one today. By this afternoon we will reach near record  high in the  eighties.  Only a twenty percent chance of rain in the forecast today but our chances increase over the weekend.  By Monday of next week we will see a forty percent chance.  The forecast is showing a twenty percent chance of showers for Saturday and Sunday. It is only suppose to be isolated thunder storms but be prepared. Tuesday looks like it will start a few days of rain for the Big Easy.  I will have the umbrella at the ready but there is plenty of cover in the Quarter. What’s a little rain after all. So don’t let that keep you from coming out to the French Quarter to see me at the 1850’s House Store.  I will be signing my latest book “If I Were A French Quarter Rat” and also  “I Love You Bigger Than The Sky!”  Whatever you decide to do today, enjoy! See y’all in NOLA!

In With the Old: Publishing a Memoir in the New Year

With 14 years of experience helping writers submit their work for publication, Writer’s Relief’s President, Ronnie Smith, believes there is no better time to submit memoirs and personal essays than the first months of a new year. For that reason Writer’s Relief has decided to open a number of spots on their invitation-only client list to memoir writers.

“The New Year is a time of reflection and of committing to success,” Smith said, “so it’s a great time for memoirs. There’s something that appeals to people about curling up with a good book in January and February. Agents and editors are no exception.”

Centuries ago memoirs were one of the most respected forms of writing, with novels way down at the bottom of the pile. It was believed that the real-life stories of enlightened observers were more meaningful to readers than stories that were “not true.”

And yet, despite the age-old popularity of memoirs, aspiring writers have often found it difficult to write about their own lives, partly because of the question of what is “true” or “not true.” Herman Rosenblat’s memoir Angel at the Fence, which was touted by Oprah in the same way she’d once championed James Frey’s A Million Little Pieces, was the latest memoir to become the subject of public scrutiny when Holocaust historians questioned the feasibility of the book’s plot.

“There are two schools of thought about memoir writing,” Smith said. “Some believe that each and every syllable of a conversation that happened a decade ago must be rendered with perfect word-for-word exactness. But many editors understand that memoir is an art form—that’s why it’s called creative nonfiction. A work can be both true and have creative elements at the same time.”

Another common misconception that Smith encounters about memoirs is the belief that a memoir needs to cover a person’s entire lifespan or that it needs to be the size of a full-length book.

“Memoirs can range in tone and scope, discussing anything from a decade to a single day. Some memoirs inspire and motivate, while others point toward injustice and oppression in the world,” Smith said. “For as many unique personalities as there are in the world, there are unique memoirs.”

The memoir market is driven by two forms: the book-length memoir and the personal creative essay. Writer’s Relief has successfully placed creative nonfiction in a number of venues; however, Smith stresses the importance of knowing the market if one is seeking traditional print publications. She finds that short works (up to 5,000 words) have the best shot at finding publication in traditional literary journals and magazines. Longer works must be 40,000 words or more to be considered book-length.

“Our Review Board reads memoirs from many unknown and established writers who want to join our client list. We’ve found that even if a writer isn’t, say, a classical pianist-turned-astronaut who uncovered a real-life terrorist plot, there may be a market for the memoir if it’s meaningful and well-written,” Smith said.

At most traditional publishing houses and literary agencies, the memoir market is crowded and competitive, so the manner in which submissions are made is critical. Writer’s Relief is a unique company that strategically targets creative writers’ work to venues within the publishing industry, increasing the likeliness of publication.

Writer’s Relief accepts only those clients whose writing is strong and effective; however, new writers whose work shows promise are as welcome as veteran writers. For guidelines on how to submit a memoir or personal essay to Writer’s Relief, visit www.writersrelief.com.

“Because New Year’s is one of the best times to submit nonfiction to agents and editors, we encourage writers who have written either long or short memoirs to send them to our Review Board,” Smith said.

“New Think for Old Publishers”

2009 SXSW Panel description: “This is not a discussion of whether ebooks are killing treebooks, or whether it’s possible to get cozy with an Amazon Kindle. It’s about how participatory culture and the online world interact with good olde book publishing. Clay Shirky, author of Here Comes Everybody, Deborah Schultz, and fellow panelists will share with the audience a variety of perspectives on what’s going right and what’s going wrong in publishing, assess success of recent forays into marketing digitally, digital publishing, and what books and blogs have to gain from one another. Penguin Group (USA), which houses some 40 plus imprints and publishes an extremely broad variety of physical and digital product – everything from William Gibson’s first ebook in the 90’s to Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food to Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse novels (the source for HBO’s True Blood) – is deeply involved in exploring ways that old and new media might better collaborate. Audience members are invited to speak up about what they think book publishers could/should be doing to better provide relevant information and content to blogs, websites, and online communities. Come tell old media what you want and how you want it.”
