Good Morning NOLA!  TGIF!  Friday is here.  Are you ready for the weekend? I am certainly looking forward to it.  It is partly cloudy this morning. The sun will be out shortly and the rest of the day will be full of sunshine.  By this afternoon we will reach a high of eighty.  No rain in the forecast today but our chances increase over the weekend.  By Monday of next week we will see a forty percent chance.  The forecast is showing a thirty percent chance of showers for Saturday and Sunday. It is only suppose to be isolated thunder storms but be prepared. I will have the umbrella at the ready but there is plenty of cover in the Quarter. What’s a little rain after all. So don’t let that keep you from coming out to the French Quarter to see me at the 1850’s House Store.  I will be signing my latest book “If I Were A French Quarter Rat” and also  “I Love You Bigger Than The Sky!”  Whatever you decide to do today, enjoy! See y’all in NOLA!

Anyone interested in starting an online writing group with me?

I was thinking about starting an online writing group, but i need some people to join? Would anybody like to join? There are many fun activities where you can win prizes and you can post your thoughts, ideas, and even your own writing to share!

You might ask this on the StoryMash.com forums. There are many great writers there!

What are the pros and cons of self-publishing vs. a publishing company?

It seems that to publish your work, you need a literary agent, but to get a literary agent, you need something published. So is it better to self-publish your work? What is the best way to get your work published? Also, I don’t want my work simply published; I’d like to have it seen in bookstores. Or is the marketing part really up to me?

Thanks.

Let me begin by saying that many journals and newspapers have a policy of not reviewing self-published books, which therefore have two or perhaps even three strikes against them. It would be better to publish something somewhere, possibly even an obscure journal; that may give you a start. If you are writing a novel, you could send a chapter to a mgazine which publishes fiction.
I will give you an example I know about from my research. Philip Larkin (1922-85), the poet, published poems in university magazines as an undergraduate, but he had no success in publishing a book, and so decided to publish his own work as "Twenty Poems" in 1950. But he came to interest George Hartley, the publisher of a non-mainline literary magazine, in his work, who then brought out "The Less Deceived" in 1955, with a hundred people interested in contemporary poetry subcribing to it in advance. It was not until 1964 that Faber and Faber, a mainline publisher, agreed to publish "The Whitsun Weddings," which then became a celebrated book.
My advice to to you is that you try to get someone else interested in your work, agent or not, and go from there. Many well- known writers have stared at rejection slips for years.
On the other hand, if your work is really good, I don’t think self-publication is automatically a bad idea. It might gain a small audience if a bookstore agrees to display it. A few do, but not the big stores.
After a point you have to decide whether your work is unpublished bacause all new work is difficult to get into print or because you are writing what no publisher wants or whether you need to make the kinds of changes in your writihg which would improve its chance of publication. Another idea–perhaps you have tried it–is to put ypur work on a website and see if it attracts readers. That will give you an idea of the "demand" for it.
If writing is really the center of your life, you can persist in it longer even if you are unpublished than if it is not.

What is the best self publishing option?

What is the best self-publishing option? I have just completed my first book for short horror stories and want to self-publish it. However, I can’t afford to pay too much to get my book off the ground. I was considering publishing it through Lulu, but am unsure if this is the best way to go.

So ANY advice at all on self publishing would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Lulu has had a great deal of good press on Answers and I have heard nothing bad about them.
The only trouble is that they do not market your book; you have to do that yourself. Also, “real” publishers will be unlikely to take on a book that has already been self published, unless of course it turns out to have been a raging success already (Such as The Celestine Prophecies and a few others)

Good Morning NOLA! What a beautiful Sunday morning! I am loving this wonderful weather. Through 2pm today it will be sunny with temperatures rising towards the mid 70s. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.   Abundant sunshine. High around 80F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.  Our chance of rain in the Crescent City area is zero percent  today.  There is still lots going on in the city as usual.  The Saints and Sinners Literary Conference is in town. Check out the new exhibit at the THNOC.  This city never sleeps so don’t miss a thing . I hope your  plans include music.  It is good for the soul. The weather should cooperate so get out and enjoy.  The week ahead looks pretty good. Don’t worry about those scattered showers over the week ahead but all in all looks great. I will  be at the 1850’s House Store sigining books today,Sunday, May 15th once again. So make plans to come out a get your personalized copies of “I Love You Bigger Than The Sky!” and “IF I Were A French Quarter Rat”.  Whatever you decide to do today, enjoy! You Can Work From Home Online – Change Your Life With Profits on the Internet

For most people, living paycheck to paycheck is a long term reality – which is fine, until that paycheck stops coming, or simply is not enough to cover the bills! Luckily – we have the incredible power of the internet available to us – all you need is the right direction…

The very best news is that there are more people than ever with a track record of success online. What’s even more exciting is that those same people are publishing all the details of what they have done, usually in the form of a blueprint, so that you can follow them. If you’re like me – your next question is “why would they do that?” – well, more on that in a minute…

Before that, let me address one of the biggest challenges facing the new internet entrepreneur. Chances are, you don’t have 40-50 free hours each week as you get started! In fact, chances are that you have kids, or a job, or 2 jobs – in fact, your life is probably pretty full exactly where you are already. I can relate to that – starting my current business, I am working 40-50 hours per week and sometimes away from home for days at a time. So trying to fit in a new business can get a little complicated! Whatever your situation – the good news is that you are not the first person to start an internet business like that – and you can absolutely be successful.

There are two things that set the internet business apart from a traditional business – and both of these work in your favour – use them in every way you can and this will catapult your results:

Firstly – the internet is 24/7 and global! Meaning that anything you do online keeps working for you all the time, automatically, whether you are working or not. Take this article for instance – I am actually writing it at 5am because our 3-year-old decided that was a good time to be out of bed this morning! It doesn’t matter what timezone I am in, or if anyone else is even awake – because this article will be posted on websites around the world over the coming weeks – and will keep working for me, whether I am awake or asleep. So – when you are struggling to find time to work your business – be creative about your schedule. I do a lot of advertising early in the morning, or late at night – I have no problem losing a few hours of sleep in return for years of financial freedom to come. This is what is known as leveraging your time with a system.

Secondly – and this is the great secret that all the successful internet entrepreneurs know – make sure you are bringing other people into your business! Remember – the fact that you have just learned these two secrets means you know more than someone just getting started – so you could mentor them. For your business – find yourself a mentor who has been successful in the way you would like to – if you want to make $50,000 per month – you don’t want a mentor or a system with no concept of how to do that! Just be sure that they are in a system that will give you step by step training to achieve your goals.

So why would all these successful people be prepared to teach you what they know? Simple – by showing you how to become successful, they become more successful. And as you build your team and teach others what you have learned, your checks will grow too. That’s the power of leveraging other people’s time in your business.

So – how do you get these easy profits? Use leverage! At every chance you get – leverage your own time and efforts massively and you will be amazed at the results!
